About Me

Hi there! My name is Nicole and I'm addicted to reading. I am a college graduate from UCSB (University of California, Santa Barbara) with an English major, and an avid reader, mostly of young adult novels. I'm living in the Los Angeles area, and I've lived in Arizona and Michigan. I play soccer, but that's about the only exercise I can stand. The first book website I belonged to was Goodreads where you can find many more of my book reviews. Since then I've become a member of Netgalley, Edelweiss, and Librarything.

I am currently finished with a rough draft of my first novel, which is a YA high fantasy, tentatively called The Darkling Sea. I am currently looking for agents to get my book published.

Here are some random things to know about me:

Age: 24

Chore that you hate: Washing the floors! I used to have to scrub on my knees like Cinderella but my parents have since moved on from such Medieval practices. I also hate washing the dishes now that I'm at college...

Dogs: My boyfriend has the most lovable beagle in the world, Toby, and so he's half mine. I'd love a Corgi though one day. I get the feeling we're going to be the dog people.

Essential start to your day: I barely function in the morning, so I'd say clothes is all that's really essential. And either glasses or contacts, because I'm blind... Okay, not really.

Favorite colors: My favorite color is green. Not a neon green though, more like a forest green. I've also been told that purple looks good on me but I think I have a total of three purple shirts, which is a record for me.

Gold or silver: Silver. Why? Because I don't look good in gold jewelry and I think the color itself is way too flashy.

Height: 5'7"... and a half.

Instruments you play: I used to joke around on the piano and the guitar (both of which I still own). I played clarinet (go ahead, start in on the American Pie jokes) from 5th grade to 12th grade, but quit after high school because my Wind Ensemble teacher turned me off to playing.

Job title: Student, reader, writer, blogger, babysitter, superhero by night.... I also work at a textbook publishing company.

Kids: Not even thinking about it yet.

Live: Calabasas, California

Overnight hospital stays: Hmm strange question... I've never stayed overnight, though I've been to the hospital 4 times in the last few years and none before then. Let's see: 22 stitches for my shin, badly sprained wrist, bunion surgery, when I had a seizure and passed out from Halloween makeup, and I also recently had bronchitis and needed antibiotics.

Pet peeves: Well there's too many to name, but my greatest pet peeve is stupid people, which kind of covers all the bases.

Quote from a movie: "I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme. I hate the way you're always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it when you're not around, and the fact that you didn't call. But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all."

Right or left-handed: Left! We're taking over the world one person at a time! Lauren Kate knows this.

Siblings: Only child.

Time you wake up: For work - my alarm is set for 7:25, but I lie in bed for ten minutes doing things on my phone. The weekend - 9:30-10:30.

Underwear: I'm re-posting this from Squeaky Books, because I have to agree: "Have you seen this video? It's a little creepy, but so true. Besides, my underwear is really not that interesting."

Vegetable you hate: Artichokes... I think that's it. Oh, and spinach. Me and Popeye would NOT get along.

What makes you run late: I'm a generally lazy person so I wait until the last minute to get ready to go somewhere And of course I'll forget something so I have to go back and then I'm even later.

Yummy food that you make: I don't do cooking, much to my boyfriend's chagrin... BUT I can make some delicious cookies and the one time I tried to make chicken Alfredo, it was very successful. Also, anything I can boil is cookable.

Zoo animal: If they had puppies in the zoo, it'd be that, but otherwise... penguins.

How do you like your steak? Medium-rare

Favorite cuisine: SUSHI!

Favorite salad dressing: Caesar, Goddess, Italian.

Vehicle you drive: A dark blue/purple 2014 Chevy Cruz. It's my first car that wasn't a hand-me-down!

Favorite clothes: Leggings and v-neck tee. I like to keep it simple.

Cup 1/2 empty or 1/2 full: Just 1/2

Birthplace: San Diego, CA.

Favorite sport to watch: Hockey, specifically the Detroit Red Wings.

Favorite sport to play: Soccer, hands down! I wish we were more soccer savvy over here in the US. Everywhere else, they call it football, which makes more sense if you think about it.

Morning person or night person? I am soooooo not a morning person, we'll just leave it at that.

What did you want to be when you were little? Surprisingly, a poet, then an Astronomer. When I realized Astronomy involved a lot of math, I went back to my first love, which was a "novel" I had started writing when I was 13. That is NOT the novel I'm finished with now :D

Best childhood memory: Watching the snow fall on Christmas Eve and seeing untouched snow blanket the world outside in the morning as we open our presents. But one specific Christmas night, when I still lived in Michigan, I couldn't sleep because I was excited for Santa, so I sat out in the living room on the couch in the wee hours of the morning. It was really bright outside because of the snow and the moon, and I swore I heard something on the roof and to this day I KNOW I heard bells from somewhere in the distance. I kid you not, people, Santa is real!

Been in a car accident? One tiny one when I had recently gotten my license. Thankfully, it was no big deal and my dad didn't kill me. And one big one, where some guy pulled out in front of my dad driving and we hit almost head on going 40 miles an hour. Not fun.

Favorite Pizza Toppings: Bell peppers and pineapple... Don't judge.

Favorite Flower: Rose, the ones that are yellow with red tips.

Favorite ice cream: Strawberry cheesecake

Favorite fast food restaurant: In-N-Out. If you don't know what that is, I feel sorry for you.

How many times did you fail your driver's test? None! Go me!

Store you would choose to max out your credit card: Barnes and Noble obviously! Or if there was Independent bookstore close by.
