The Savage Grace (The Dark Divine #3) by Bree Despain: review and GIVEAWAY!

Goodreads rating: 4.26
Hardcover, 488 pages
Published March 13th 2012 by EgmontUSA

A troubled soul. An impossible choice. A final battle.

Wrestling with the werewolf curse pulsing deep inside of her, Grace Divine was finally able to find her brother, but it nearly cost her everything.

With her boyfriend, Daniel, stuck in wolf form and Sirhan's death approaching, time is running out for Grace to stop Caleb Kalbi and his gang of demons. If she fails, her family and hometown will perish. Everything rests on Grace's shoulders.

The final installment in The Dark Divine trilogy brings Daniel and Grace's love story to a breathtaking conclusion.
WARNING: This review is slightly spoilery, as it's the 3rd book in a series. If you haven't at least read the first book, just skip right down to the giveaway.

For me, this has always been one of those series that I definitely enjoyed but hasn't been my complete favorite. I've been wary of werewolves ever since Twilight (I'm not exactly Team Edward, just more like Anti-Team Jacob), but this really has a very different spin on it. When this series began, Grave Divine hadn't seen Daniel in years, when they would play together with her brother Jude. A brother who's been missing for some time now. Grace begins falling for Daniel, but she begins to realize that he is not what he seems, and her safety is in more peril than she could have ever imagined.

There is a lot of religion in this series. It's not completely overbearing, but Grace's father is a pastor and the neighborhood ancient werewolf is a man of god as well, so it's kind of hard to ignore. In The Savage Grace though, with Daniel MIA, she is forced to question her religion. But she finds her way back with the help of Gabriel (neighborhood werewolf) and her father and even Daniel. But there's a bigger storm coming: the night Daniel and Grace spent locked up in the warehouse full of traitorous werewolves has severe consequences, and the most powerful werewolf in the world is about to die. And his son? He's the bad guy, and he will do ANYTHING to take his father's place. But there is another...

The romance in this book is different, in a very good way. Daniel and Grace had been living next to each other for all their lives before Daniel had to move away. So already I'm loving this. But it's not an easy road for these two. When we come into the 3rd book, Daniel is unable to turn back into a human. Because Grace cured him of the disease in book 1, he no longer has the curse of the werewolf, but is now a Hound of Heaven, what the Urbats were originally supposed to be before they corrupted themselves (think Lucifer Morningstar in werewolf terms). So, on top of Daniel being unable to change back into a human, and because of what happened at the end of book one, Grace has to fight her inner demons without Daniel, in a town that likes to hunt wolves. And Daniel has been making a lot of noise. So much heartache in the first part of this book! Then we're forced to focus on the bad werewolves.

This was a perfect ending to a wonderful, heart-wrenching series. I'm also in love with Bree Despain's writing. I'll pretty much read anything she writes! I'm sad to say farewell to the Dark Divine series, but it was a good way to go out.
